There are many varieties of doodles out there today, with Goldendoodles and Labradoodles being two of the most commonly referred to doodles. But what is a Bernedoodle, and how is it different from Goldendoodles and Labradoodles?  What makes a Bernedoodle unique?

This blog is going to provide a rundown of these three breeds, their differences and what makes Bernadoodles so incredibly unique. Come with us on this exploratory journey through the world of doodles and let us help you understand the unique difference between these three breeds.

What is a Goldendoodle?

A Goldendoodle is a hybrid cross between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. There are many varieties of Goldendoodles out there, with different genetic blends, multi-generational Goldendoodles, etc. Golden Retrievers are considered sporting dogs, with high energy, lovable personalities, loyal natures and highly social needs. Poodles present with a lack of shedding, a hypoallergenic coat, a calmer personality, lovable nature and social needs. When crossing the two breeds, it was noted that the offspring often presented with less shedding, a more hypoallergenic coat, and a wonderful mix between both amazing personalities. Over time, the breeding continued in order to ensure specific coat patterns, color patterns, and hypoallergenic status among the puppies.

Goldendoodles are often chosen as service dogs, because of their intelligence, their ability to work, and their loyal and friendly natures. The qualities of most Goldendoodles are often perfectly in line with what many need in a service animal, which is why they are becoming a very popular choice. Goldendoodles are also becoming popular as family dogs for families who have dog allergies. Many people with a sensitivity to dog hair, are able to own dogs due to the Goldendoodle being considered hypoallergenic.

What is a Labradoodle

Labradoodles are Labrador Retrievers mixed with Poodles. Much like their Goldendoodle counterparts, they often present with the best of both breeds. Labs are short haired dogs, so Labradoodles may present with less coat choices than a Goldendoodle. Because of the Labrador being a sporting dog as well, these dogs can be very similar in nature to Goldendoodles, with slight differences in size and coloring. Their personalities may often be very similar, as Labradoodles are highly intelligent, friendly, social, and can be very energetic pups.

Labradoodles were originally bred and brought into existence in Australia, to provide hypoallergenic dogs. Since then they have taken off in popularity across the world.

What is a Bernedoodle?

Bernedoodles are the hybrid cross between Bernese Mountain Dogs and Poodles. Bernedoodles are often the perfect combination between their parent breeds, with Bernese Mountain Dogs bringing their coloring, gentle, and friendly natures while their Poodle parent’s bring the hypoallergenic status and intelligence to the table.

Because of this mixture of qualities, Bernedoodles are often incredibly intelligent, highly social, and very friendly and gentle dogs that also can boast of a hypoallergenic status like their Labradoodle and Goldendoodle counterparts.

What makes a Bernedoodle Unique?

Bernedoodles, like other doodle breeds, can be found in a wide variety of sizes from toy to standard size. A standard Bernedoodle however can be slightly larger than their Goldendoodle and Labradoodle counterparts.

Bernedoodles are often coveted for their amazingly gentle, friendly, playful and hardworking natures. The Bernese Mountain Dog heritage brings many qualities that set the Bernedoodle apart from other doodle breeds.

One of the biggest distinctions between Bernedoodles and other doodles is the coloring. Bernedoodles are known for the beautiful tri-color coats, which are often passed down through the Bernedoodle lines. Bernedoodles are also known for their incredibly fluffy coats, along with their non-shedding and hypoallergenic status.

Bernedoodles often share many qualities with other doodles, like the Goldendoodle and Labradoodle, they are known for their gentle, playful, loyal and hardworking natures. Bernedoodles often have incredibly unique colorings and coats, due to their Bernese Mountain Dog heritage. Their tri-color and fluffy coats stand them out from the crowd of doodles.
